My name is Vanessa Ottewell. I am a mother, wife and business owner.

I moved to Nova Scotia from the UK with my family back in 2008. Since this time I have concentrated on building a successful business, as well as being a full time mum to two fantastic kids and one fur-baby!

I have over 30 years experience working in the business industry, having worked for many large corporations over the years. The skills and knowledge I have accumulated over this time led me to start my own business helping small business owners and entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses.  During my years "out in the field" I spent over 20 years working in transcription (covering both medical and media transcription). 

My aim is to provide a fast, reliable and accurate service to my clients. I pride myself on building lasting relationships and always try to go that extra mile as and when needed.

Just to give you a little background info on me...

I left school at 16 and went straight into working for a small Landscape Architect firm. I was kind of the "jack of all trades", doing anything from answering the switchboard to typing up architectural tenders. I stayed in that job until the company went into receivership. From there I moved on to become a Bank Secretary for a large UK banking institution. I stayed there until the Bank decided to make everything automated and restructure their administrative services. I moved on to American Express where I was the Front Desk Receptionist, primarily in charge of greeting clients and typing up Financial Action Plans for the Financial Planners. I left that company to travel to the US where I was a Live-In Nanny for a year. This was a great opportunity for me to see the world and travel and I loved it!

Upon returning to the UK I met my husband Steve and I managed to get back into the secretarial field and started working for Portsmouth Hospitals. Here I was a Medical Secretary/PA to the Consultant Physicians at the hospital. I remained in this position for over 12 years, only leaving to relocate with my family to Canada.

Once arriving in Canada I decided to be a stay-at-home mum (something which I missed out on in the UK as I was working). This was fantastic and I loved every minute of it.  It gave me a wonderful opportunity to watch my children grow and thrive in a new country. 

As my children got older and started to rely on me less and less I found myself with LOTS of spare time. I decided to take online courses to "refresh" my skills (anyone being out of the workplace for any significant length of time will know what I mean by this ha ha). I started taking business courses and computer courses so that I could eventually go back out into the workplace. It was only when my husband suggested that I just work for myself that Virtual Office Services was born.

I managed to literally "bag" my first client before I'd even launched a Facebook page or finished my website which was fantastic! I am so blessed to be meeting new people every week and working with some awesome people. 


...ABOUT VIRTUAL OFFICE SERVICES 
So...Virtual Office Services was born. It all started from a simple ad online and went from there.

I have been lucky enough to not only secure long term clients, but also work with some awesome ad hoc clients too. Since my background is more driven to the PA side of things I strive to provide the best possible service to my clients, from checking their emails daily to updating their social media.
